Leveraging 20 years of military experience, Mark is focused on leadership development facilitation, organizational development consulting, and key-note speaking.


With extensive and varied operational, planning, and teaching experience, Mark brings over 20 years of military leadership to Cognascent as a co-founding partner. Having joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1997, with tours in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Haiti, Mark has commanded small teams to large multi-national forces. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his actions under fire in Kandahar, and co-authored Clearing the Way: Combat Engineers in Kandahar—now a documentary film.

Passionate about enabling others to fulfill their potential, Mark uses proven, pragmatic techniques to facilitate their leadership development. A decorated battlefield innovator, Mark challenges the status quo and static thinking to offer unique and entrepreneurial approaches to problems and opportunities. A professional engineer with two masters degrees and as a published author, Mark thinks deeply about the context of the endeavour space and what can be done to leap into the future. An accomplished speaker, Mark weaves rich personal experience with applicable theories and current trends to provide practical take-aways regarding the chosen topic.
